GCSA Studios

Look alive, Sunshine.

This will not be your typical GCSA what’s update. Instead of being dedicated to internal activities, it will focus on what’s happening beyond our crimson door. If you want to skip the wall of text, just jump to the seventh paragraph.

In case any of our readers were unaware, GCSA has always been heavily influenced and inspired by Bungie Studios, the makers of Marathon, ONI, Halo, and more. I think it’s very safe to say that without Bungie, there would be no GCSA. A few years ago, GCSA made a very distinct turn. We stopped being all about video, and began to expand into other areas, namely game production and web development. This was because we wanted to Bungie more than anything. Yet knowing that we’re not nearly qualified, our only option was to forge our own construct, with our goals, in their image. That is why you can see the nuance of Bungie in everything we do, and that is also why our hearts are heavy and light regarding the latest developments concerning our deity.

Today, just hours ago, Bungie announced that it will be joining the distribution company, Activision. By leaving Microsoft Game Studios and joining Activision they will gain a few features. Bungie will, from this point forward, own all of their intellectual property and choose what consoles their products will be featured on. They also will likely profit more. So ultimately, Bungie will be on the xbox, ps3, wii, DS, psp, abacus, PC, etc. This sounds good in theory, but it’s got all of us at GCSA a tad bit uneasy. Why? Loyalty.

Microsoft has helped out GCSA in the past, in ways that will not be disclosed. Just let it be known that MSFT is a wonderful company and you all should invest accordingly. As a result, we feel that we have a certain dedication owed to them. That is why we are all so anti-Apple. As long as I have any amount of control over GCSA, we will never develop anything for Apple products. PC’s and Adobe all the way. This is loyalty- staying true to the ones that have helped you in the past.

We do not know all of the details about Bungie’s and Microsoft’s business together, but outwardly both parties seemed quite happy. Our concern is that this new, unholy alliance is purely driven by money. Obviously, that is the point of any business, to profit, but is money really worth breaking the Bungie/Microsoft bond?

GCSA has, and always will, follow Bungie with admiration. Yet we can’t help but feel a little doubt toward our heroes. Hopefully this will all be for the best. Aside from *** **** Shishka, Bungie is under the control of some brilliant human beings.

For next week, as a bonus and thank you to all our readers, we will have a complete breakdown and review of the Halo: Reach beta. We’re going to be telling you everything that you need to know in order to spend more time fragging, and less time spawning. We’ll have exclusive images, and maybe even a video or two for you.
